Roderick Williams Schubert Project

Roderick Williams sings Winterreise with Iain Burnside, piano

The two year Schubert Project which Roderick Williams is undertaking and which involves Music in the Round and Leamington Music, got off to an inspiring start on Sunday 13 November when he performed Winterreise, accompanied by Iain Burnside. Earlier in the week, also at King’s High School in Warwick, he gave workshops to students from both that school and Warwick School.

Roderick Williams has given performances of Winterreise, both in German and English, in Sheffield and Doncaster for Music in the Round, besides at the Wigmore Hall. It’s a busy time as he has also been singing the title role in Britten’s Billy Budd for Opera North – another critically acclaimed triumph.

He will sing Die schone Mullerin on Sunday 30 April in the 2017 Leamington Music Festival Weekend held at the Royal Pump Rooms and the following day will give a performance of Howard Skempton’s The Rime of the Ancient Mariner with members of Ensemble 360. This work, commissioned by Maurice and Sheila Millward, was premiered by Roderick Williams and the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in December 2015, followed by a performance at the Wigmore Hall. These forces make a recording in November 2016. Roderick Williams sang the work with Ensemble 360 in Sheffield in May 2016.

To finish the Project, Schwanengesang will be in the final concert of the 2018 Leamington Music Festival Weekend on Tuesday 8 May.
